Edwards Lifesciences Donated US$80.000 to Help High-Risk Populations Before the COVID-19 Emergency

San Jose, Costa Rica. April 23, 2020. Edwards Lifesciences Corporation, the global leader in patient-focused innovations for structural heart disease and critical care monitoring, together with Edwards Lifesciences Foundation made donations totaling US$80,000 to the benefit of high-risk in anticipation of an increase of COVID-19 cases in Costa Rica.

Josue Campos, Edwards Lifesciences General Manager in Costa Rica commented: “To Edwards is highly important the well-being of the communities where our employees live and work, which is why it was approved the monetary donation to nonprofit organizations we know are going to help people, that because of the crisis, are going through a hard time or are part of a high-risk population to the COVID-19”.

As a part of its commitment to the country and its associates, Edwards Lifesciences Foundation performed directly the donations to nonprofit organizations reassuring the Edwards values. US$50.000 were donated to the Costa Rica Food Bank. The amount of US$10,000 was donated to the Asilo de Ancianos de Cartago, US$10,000 to the Hogar Manos de Jesús. Additionally, the company provided another US$10,000 to buy testing equipment to detect the presence of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), via an initiative promoted by Amcham.

Furthermore, and an initiative promoted by the company´s employees, donations are being made to purchase food and first needs supplies for people on the state of vulnerability in the area of the Cartago province, these will also be delivered by the Fundación Unidos por un Corazón.

Edwards Cartago Operations also implemented a series of protection measures for their employees while been in compliance with Costa Rica Health Ministry, for example, social distancing initiatives in all working areas with visual aids, taking reading temperature to any person that enters to the facility, increase the working schedule of its private medical center, implement the use of facemasks, having more than 50% of professional working from home and increase the number of private buses that transport the personnel to support the social distancing requirements.

Moreover, Edwards maintained communication and prevention campaigns between its co-workers, with the purpose of keeping them updated about the internal company´s dispositions and new actions to implement.
