Costa Rica's First Product & Packaging Testing Laboratory Serving External Clients Achieves ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation

  1. This milestone strengthens ECI’s ability to support life sciences organizations throughout product development, validation, commercialization, and ongoing quality activities.

The Product & Packaging Testing Laboratory of Enhanced Compliance Inc. (ECI) has achieved ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from A2LA for technical competence in mechanical testing. The U.S. life sciences company has operated in Costa Rica's Coyol Free Zone since 2019.

The laboratory opened in 2025, following a multimillion-dollar reinvestment, becoming the first to serve external clients in Costa Rica. With this certification, the company further strengthens its ability to support product validations, FDA submissions, CAPA investigations, and other critical testing activities with reliable, repeatable, and internationally recognized results.

More than a certification, this achievement reflects the expertise and dedication of our team to deliver technically sound, reliable results our clients can trust. We built this laboratory to provide capabilities that were not previously available in Costa Rica and the region, and this accreditation reinforces our commitment to being a strategic partner for product validation, quality, and innovation.” stated Juan Carlos Rodríguez, Director of Consulting Operations, LATAM at ECI.

The ISO 17025 is the international standard for testing and calibration laboratories that ensures accurate and quality results. In this case, ECI’s accredited capabilities regard testing performed on packaging systems and sterile products, including distribution simulation, environmental conditioning, vibration, drop, compression, altitude, package integrity, seal strength, leak testing, and aging studies.

Until now, Costa Rica’s life sciences companies had to send certain product and packaging tests to laboratories abroad, primarily in the U.S., which added time, costs, and risk to the validation process.

Expanding the availability of advanced, internationally recognized testing services within the country strengthens Costa Rica’s value proposition for existing manufacturers and future investors as it enhances regulatory readiness, enabling companies to access critical validation services closer to their operations.” said Ana María Romero, Investment Advisory Manager at CINDE.

ECI plans to continue investing in its laboratory capabilities and expanding its accredited service offerings to address evolving client needs.
