Time Magazine Features Costa Rica Among the World’s Greatest Places 2021

June 20, 2021. Time magazine has selected 100 destinations to explore in its latest “World’s Greatest Places 2021”.

Costa Rica is on this important list due to its conservation efforts. The magazine reads: “Thanks to Costa Rica’s conservation efforts, forests now cover 53% of the country’s lands—a dramatic reversal after decades of severe deforestation—and 98% of its energy comes from renewable sources, a strong step toward its goal of becoming one of the world’s first decarbonized nations by 2050.”

It adds: “The ethos of Costa Rica’s newest hotels aligns with the country’s commitment to sustainability: Nayara Tented Camp, for example, has invested in reforestation efforts while offering cliff-top glamping with unmatched views of the Arenal volcano. The eco-conscious Six Senses Papagayo—with its own organic farm—will be the ultra-luxury hotel brand’s first development in Central America. And solar panels power the new Cielo Lodge, overlooking the Pacific coastal village of Golfito.”

Time magazine compiled the list according to solicited nominations of places from its international network of correspondents and contributors.

“In many ways, our third annual list of the World’s Greatest Places is a tribute to the people and businesses at the forefront of those industries who, amid extraordinary circumstances, found ways to adapt, build and innovate,” concludes the international magazine.
