Pacific Barcode Diversifies its Local Operations, Will Now Also Produce Medical Device Labels from Costa Rica

  • With advisory services from CINDE, the company first arrived in Costa Rica in 2021 to establish a service center; two years later, it will complement its local operations with label manufacturing.
  • Its Costa Rican service center supports the company’s headquarters in California, while its label production will primarily supply the multinational device market in Latin America.
San José, Costa Rica. June 12, 2023.  Pacific Barcode, a renowned specialist company and supplier of label solutions for the medical device subsector, has announced diversification of its Costa Rican operations. More than a year after establishing a shared services center in the country, the U.S. company will now also manufacture labels from Costa Rican soil; with this, it will meet the growing demand for its products and services throughout Latin America.

Pacific Barcode’s operational expansion represents a significant step in its commitment to the region. Thanks to CINDE's support, the company identified Costa Rica as a strategic destination, due to the country’s significant presence of medical device manufacturers, as well as its proximity to other potential customers in the region, low production costs, ease of export to Latin America, and highly qualified Costa Rican talent; together, these factors empower said growth for the company.

“We are excited to announce the diversification of our operations in Costa Rica,” commented Mauricio Bolaños, General Director of Pacific Barcode Latin America. “Our company prides itself on providing solutions ranging from labels and label printers to warehouse labeling solutions and printing software. Our Costa Rican growth represents a strategic step to better serve our clients in Latin America, and, above all, due to the concentration of more than 82 medical device companies that makes this country a unique destination in the region,” he added.

CINDE, the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency, supported Pacific Barcode’s arrival in the country in 2021 and, likewise, has provided the advisory services necessary for its recent growth in operations.

“Pacific Barcode began by establishing a shared services center in Costa Rica to support its global headquarters in Temecula, California. Now, we are pleased to support them in their plans to hire more staff in production, sales, and marketing functions, while maintaining their focus on personalized service for FTZ customers doing large-scale manufacturing, with on-demand label printing that necessitates changes to variable data from batch to batch,” stated Marinela Urgellés, Managing Director of CINDE.

Pacific Barcode offers a wide range of products and services that enable its customers to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and increase overall productivity. They recently partnered with Epson to provide high-quality labels for the Epson Color Works line of printers, through their distribution channels.

Costa Rican Talent

The medical device subsector supplier company employs professional profiles ranging from customer service, financial and accounting support, and technical sales to global marketing coordination and production operators. During the remainder of 2023, Pacific Barcode plans to hire more production professionals, as well as sales, marketing, and graphic design staff.

Among the skills that the company seeks in its candidates, they prioritize excellent English-language written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to organize and prioritize. Interested applicants can apply via the company's LinkedIn profile.
