Nextern will Launch MedTech Operations in Costa Rica

  • The medical devices company excels in product design, manufacture, and improvements for optimum patient health.
  • It will also house a design, research, and engineering team involved in new product creation.

San José, Costa Rica. May 6, 2021. Nextern, a multinational MedTech, U.S. - based company, confirmed today its arrival in Costa Rica. Over the coming months, the company will establish operations in La Lima Free Zone, in Cartago. In addition to manufacturing the company's signature medical devices, it will also house a design, research, and engineering team involved in new product creation. Likewise, it will develop improvements to existing devices requested by medical professionals and companies worldwide. The Costa Rican operation will be the company's fourth plant, following those in Minnesota, Vietnam, and China.

“This new plant is extremely important to Nextern because, in addition to increasing our manufacturing capacity, it will allow us to leverage local talent to design and improve our medical products. We will seek highly talented applicants with an entrepreneurial spirit and creative mind, as well as operators who are skilled, dedicated, and careful to follow procedure,” said Gustavo Quesada, General Manager of Nextern Costa Rica.

The company chose Costa Rica for its new operations after evaluating various options throughout the Americas. Cited as top aspects in the decision are the Costa Rican talent, ample linkage possibilities, a solid supply chain, and a location strategic to the North American market.

Upon hearing the news, Andrés Valenciano, the Minister of Foreign Trade, stated, “Nextern's decision to settle in Costa Rica is an honor. Our country consistently keeps developing a talented and highly skilled workforce valued by companies. In addition to political stability, our vision of sustainable development, and a great business environment, we offer valuable conditions for investors who search for locations that allow them to increase their efficiencies. We extend our most sincere welcome and assure you that, in Costa Rica, you have a strategic partner in your business."

Jorge Sequeira Picado, Managing Director of CINDE, continued, “We thank Nextern for its trust in Costa Rica's value proposition: people, planet, and prosperity, as a response to client demands in Industry 4.0. With Nextern's arrival to Costa Rica, our country now totals 90 companies in the life sciences sector that trust in our country as a site for their operations. Exports in this sector have grown an average of 13% year-on-year since 2010, reaching almost US$4 billion in 2020. CINDE estimates that by the end of 2022, exports could reach US$5 billion."

The company will immediately hire senior bilingual professionals for positions in process engineering, product development engineering, quality engineering, and buyer planners. In the production of medical devices, Nextern will offer opportunities to manufacturing operators with at least five years of experience. Applicants who have a U.S. visa will have priority in the hiring process. Interested parties may apply by email to HRCR@nextern.com
