San José, Costa Rica. February 10, 2023. Databricks, the lakehouse company, announced the expansion of its global operations, selecting Costa Rica as the location to grow. It will be actively looking for talent to fill at least 50 positions this year. As one of the fastest-growing regions in Latin America, Databricks sees a strong opportunity to bolster operations in Costa Rica and plans to hire local talent in support of several teams including Finance, HR, IT, Technical Support, Marketing, Operations, and many other functions coming in the future.

Databricks has pioneered a simple and open architecture for data + AI, which brings the reliability, governance, and performance of a data warehouse directly to the data lakes in which most organizations already store their data in. Databricks customers are building lakehouse platforms on AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud to support every data and analytics use case - from data warehousing and business intelligence (BI) to streaming analytics, data engineering, and AI/ML workloads - in a single, unified location.

Rory Patterson, Chief of Staff to the CEO and VP of Corporate Operations at Databricks said: “Databricks has pioneered and is defining the data lakehouse category. Costa Rica is an ideal location for Databricks, offering a strong pool of qualified tech talent, a welcoming, business-friendly environment, and a convenient location and timezone to support our customers and partners. As a result, we plan on investing and expanding our operations here and look forward to welcoming new Bricksters to our team.”

Manuel Tovar, Minister of Foreign Trade, stated: "We are pleased to announce the decision of Databricks, a leading data science company, to expand its operations in our country. This new project will generate high-quality jobs and help boost the competitiveness of our economy internationally. Data science is an industry in growing demand worldwide, so we are proud to attract this innovative company to Costa Rica. This demonstrates the confidence that international investors have in our economy and our growth potential."

Databricks has raised nearly $3.6 billion and was valued at $38 billion, after the company’s Series H funding in 2021, which included investments from cloud leaders and strategic partners Amazon Web Services (AWS), CapitalG, and Microsoft. Databricks was founded by the original creators of popular open-source software initiatives including Apache Spark™, Delta Lake, and MLflow.

Ariel Vargas, Databricks’ recently appointed Director of International Operations noted, “Costa Rica has an amazing talent for us to build the next home for our company, we are looking for those pioneers willing to ‘roll up their sleeves’ and bring new ideas to the table, we are looking for passionate and creative people that will bring Pura Vida into the formula of success for Databricks. We need to build our home in Costa Rica, and we need the incredible talent we know we have in the market.”

Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director of CINDE said: "Databricks was born at the University of California, Berkley, and since its establishment, the founders have developed technological solutions for data management with which they provide services to the most demanding companies in the world, making use of technologies such as artificial intelligence. Their first operation in the country will be to provide services in areas such as finance, and human resources, at the same time, they will be hiring profiles in STEAM areas, such as software developers and designers. We are confident that their operation will become more and more specialized, opening the opportunity for professionals in data analytics, management, and business development".
