Heredia, Costa Rica. October 11, 2021. Startup Hakkoda announced that it will establish operations in Costa Rica, from where it will offer cloud services, including specialized services in Snowflake, data governance, automated or machine learning, and application development. Services will be provided in English, as they are destined for the U.S. market.

The company began operations last September and currently employs staff in the United States and Costa Rica, with plans to grow to 300 employees in Costa Rica.

Hakkoda was founded on the principle of identifying data importance to businesses, while at the same time supporting the need to accelerate the data value chain and extend it beyond reporting.

According to Erik Duffield, CEO y co-founder of Hakkoda: “Hakkoda’s impact on our clients relies on experienced, passionate team members. Costa Rica is strategic to Hakkoda in providing skilled talent that is in the same time zone as our clients and can engage with them directly to leverage data to solve their biggest challenges.”

The company seeks staff with skills in data engineering, analytics, and machine learning, as well as an ability to work with large data sets in the cloud, data integration, and SQL / Python / Scala scripting.

“We will hire everyone from college graduates to experienced professionals,” added Duffield, CEO.

Andrés Valenciano, Costa Rican Minister of Foreign Trade, commented: “Costa Rica has become a key piece of the value proposition for high innovation and technology companies. We have worked diligently so that new lines of business – those specialized in Industry 4.0 – can grow and invest in a country with highly qualified human talent. We are very pleased with the opening of Hakkoda in Costa Rica, which confirms that we're on the right track. We hope that this is the beginning of a positive and influential trajectory for our country, and that Hakkoda finds, in Costa Rica, a strategic ally in their operations.”

Jorge Sequeira Picado, Managing Director of CINDE, commented: “In Costa Rica, Hakkoda has found a strategic partner in developing cloud services. Specialized in digital technologies, the company helps highlight the collaborative and digital convergence environments that our country offers. These types of companies contribute significantly to our matrix of knowledge-intensive services exports, which represented 75% of all services exported by Costa Rica in the first half of this year. Likewise, these companies are a source of formal job creation for more than 12,000 Costa Ricans, as of 2020."
