  • Equifax will reach 2,000 employees in 2023 by reinforcing the cybersecurity, data analysis, technology, automation, and robotics areas, along with operating excellence services.
  • This expansion represents the fifth investment that the company has made in Costa Rica since 1995.
San José, Costa Rica. September 28, 2022. Equifax Inc. (NYSE:EFX), a leading global company in data-based information, analysis and technology; announced a new expansion in Costa Rica by opening its operations in the Universal Tower. This growth represents an investment of $15 million and 600 new positions in the areas of technology, data analysis, automation, and cybersecurity.

Equifax has a long track record in Costa Rica since it arrived in 1995 as one of the first five (5) multinational companies in the country, a pioneer in the knowledge-intensive services sector.

The Global Business Services (GBS) Center is the primary service center that the company has in the world and its largest operation outside the United States with 1,400 current employees. The company expects this number to exceed 2,000 people as of 2023.

Mark Begor, the Equifax CEO indicated: “For Equifax, our operations in Costa Rica have become a key piece of our strategy at the global level. We provide services to all business units and to all the company’s excellence centers. Our EFX2023 strategy is based on key imperatives that include technology in the cloud, a client-centric focus, data analysis, and world-class cybersecurity to continue our strong performance in 2022 and after. These are all supported from Costa Rica.”

In turn, Jairo Quirós, Vice President of Global Shared Services & Director for Costa Rica added: “We leverage the Costa Rican talent and their skills in technology. This has made it possible for us to grow Equifax’s technology exports over the course of the last five years at a rate six times faster than the national average.”

Rodrigo Chaves Robles, the President of the Republic, expressed: “This expansion pleases us, represents a renewed sign of trust in the country by a company that is not only a pioneer in investing in Costa Rica, but that also has a long track record that we hope is maintained and deepened while we walked together toward developing our nation.

Saying this seems easy when we look at the impeccable track record of a company that for more than a century, has consolidated itself and grown until having operations in 25 countries on almost every continent.”

Manuel Tovar, the Minister of Foreign Trade, indicated that “the service sector in Costa Rica comes to 101,300 positions and is one of the most dynamic in the Costa Rican economy. We celebrate the fact that EQUIFAX, as the leader in its field and a pioneer in Costa Rica, continues to bet on the country with its fifth expansion in our territory. We would like to express our gratitude for this vote of confidence that is demonstrated by the highly competitive environment in the search for excellence that is characterized by the Costa Rican human talent to provide the best service to customers throughout the world.”

The offices are located in La Sabana within the area known as T24, which is promoted by San Jose as the capital’s technological district.  This second operating site is added to the facilities in Heredia that are certified as being carbon neutral, which is the first Equifax operation in the world to achieve that certification. To continue with the commitment to sustainability that the company has, the new facilities are in the process of obtaining LEED Gold certification. That is how the operations in Costa Rica contribute to Equifax’s goal of carbon neutrality for 2040.

Focus on human talent
Over the course of recent years, the company has contributed to developing programs such as the master’s degree in Cybersecurity at the Technological Institute of Costa Rica and has worked with CINDE to provide input to create cybersecurity programs at technological high schools. In turn, it actively participates in the ecosystem as a member of the Board of Directors for the CyberSec Cluster in Costa Rica.

Jorge Sequeira, the CINDE Managing Director, commented “as an investment promotion agency, strengthening the local business ecosystem is key. We work hand-in-hand with our clients to ensure skills are developed that are in line with economy 4.0 in leading-edge technologies, such as those that Equifax has demonstrated that it leads. Areas such as cybersecurity, automated robotics processes, and data management demonstrate high potential for the country, and it is basic to continue preparing our human talent in the areas that the companies demand the most.”

Employment Opportunities
Equifax provides a work environment that makes it possible for its employees to develop themselves professionally with a focus on people and encouraging leadership. During the next several months, there will be a recruitment process for 600 positions available in all areas, including data analysis, automation and robotics, machine learning, cybersecurity, accounting, finance, and customer service.
