Costa Rica, May 2nd, 2019. Thermo Fisher Scientific celebrated the opening of its new distribution center in Coyol Free Zone, Alajuela, Costa Rica. This is the company’s third expansion in the country in the past 7 years.
The new 15,000 square feet building has increased height which expands capacity by 52%. The additional space will be used to stock laboratory supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE) for cleanroom applications. The facility also offers a dedicated space for storage of chemicals and hazardous materials providing a wider range of supply services for its clients. In addition, this site is in the process of obtaining the ISO-9001-2015 certification to increase its customers’ needs and continue its growth.
The Costa Rican Minister of Foreign Trade, Dyalá Jiménez, said: “Costa Rica has proved to be a global leader that promotes investment in the Life Sciences sectors, which increased 11% between 2015 and 2018. Our country is LATAM’s second main medical devices exporter and is among US’ major suppliers. Today, we see how a company from this sector grows with us. Medical devices are Costa Rica’s top export product with over 70 companies operating in the Life Sciences Sector. Thermo Fisher is part of that cluster which generates 24.600 quality jobs in the country.
