MicroVention Increases Aid for Employees to Combat the Effects of the COVID-19 Emergency

APRIL 17th 2020

· Food and transportation subsidies have increased to support families during this health crisis.
· Company maintains operations while practicing strict health, hygiene and social distancing measures.

San José, April 17, 2020. The Free Trade Zone multinational company, MicroVention-Terumo, which provides high-quality and formal employment to 1,600 people, announced that it will implement reinforced sanitary measures and increased aid to employees during the COVID-19 emergency.

Since its arrival to Costa Rica in 2011, the company has constantly strived to be an industry leader, with a significant investment in its human talent. From the onset of the COVID-19 emergency, these priorities have directed the company to implement important health, hygiene, prevention, and social distancing measures, as well as new benefits to promote the protection of its employees during the pandemic.

In solidarity, the company is granting bonuses to its employees, to improve each family’s financial situation; the company also increased its food and private transportation subsidy by 100%, for all employees.

As an additional measure to promote safe operations, the company completed a redistribution of its production lines, increased the number of private buses for its personnel, redistributed its job positions, and redesigned its cafeteria to comply with social distancing measures.

Likewise, as a preventive measure, MicroVention has begun to check employee temperatures and has increased the frequency with which it sanitizes company workspaces and vehicles. The company’s medical consultation rooms have been outfitted with protective equipment and a medical unit has been set up outside the building, to attend to employees before they enter, should this be necessary.

In Costa Rica, MicroVention produces medical devices, including intraluminal stents, occlusion balloons, platinum spirals, and flow diverters for use in the treatment of strokes, aneurysms, and neurovascular diseases.

As a preventive measure, the company also remains in constant communication with experts, regarding best practices in hygiene and health status consultations; additionally, they have already developed an action plan, should there be a positive case of COVID-19 within the company.

“A commitment to our staff is one of our company’s most important core values. As such, we have reinforced all company measures, as indicated by health authorities, and we continue to take care of each other, at all times,” stated Federico Rivera, Plant Director at MicroVention in Costa Rica.

The company hopes that other businesses in various industries, and whose manufacturing plants must continue operations, will also take optimal measures to protect both their employees and the general public from the virus.
