CINDE and Georgia Tech signed an agreement to train Costa Ricans in new academic areas

FEBRUARY 8th 2018

San José, February 8th 2018. The Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency (CINDE) and Georgia Tech, signed an agreement that will allow to develop training programs for Costa Ricans, in academic areas of high demand in the actual labor market.

The academic programs will be oriented to offer academic and training programs in the country in high demand areas such as: analytics, cybersecurity, data science, user experience and the  improvement of English in technical specialization areas, among others.

The academic programs were defined based on consultations carried out by CINDE among multinational companies, which showed interest in improving the capabilities of their personnel in the aforementioned areas, in order to strengthen new business areas in the country and the consequent opening of new jobs for Costa Ricans.

Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director of CINDE said "the signing of this agreement will come to provide new training spaces with high profile professors from Georgia Tech, all thanks to this initiative. From CINDE this is another way to contribute to social progress and the continuous improvement of human talent, oriented to generate more quality and well-paid jobs in the country. Only at the end of 2017 all multinational companies attracted by CINDE generated a total of 100,000 jobs."

“Georgia Tech Professional Education provides courses, certificate programs, and master’s degrees in STEM and business fields in a variety of formats to suit the diverse needs of learners worldwide,” said Nelson C. Baker, dean of Georgia Tech Professional Education (GTPE). “We look forward to working with CINDE companies and others in Costa Rica to develop their workforces and to help position them to compete in a global economy.”

The purpose of this agreement is to close the knowledge gap that is generated in the industry, due to the rapid changes in the worldwide industry, allowing Costa Rica to continue leading as a strategic destination for high level investment projects.

The initiative includes providing educational content master's degrees level and certifications or specialized courses on the subjects mentioned above, all at competitive costs for those interested.
