VMware confirms expansion of their operation and payroll in Costa Rica

JUNE 9th 2014

Firm announced its expansion and reinvestment plans in Costa Rica today, and will increase their payroll in over 60% by the end of 2015

California, June 9th, 2014. The official investment promotion trip to the United States to promote Costa Rica as a strategic hub for investment projects is starting to be very fruitful.

The technology company VMware confirmed the President, Luis Guillermo Solís, the it will expand its operations in the country, which will lead to increased staffing and a significant growth in just 2 years of operation in the country. VMware started operations in Costa Rica in 2012 with three people and expects to close 2014 with about 250 employees. It announced that by 2015 it has plans to continue growing and host over 400 Costa Ricans at its headquarters. 

VMware is a worldwide leader in virtualization software. This company was founded in 1998 and is headquartered in Palo Alto California. The company has a Shared Services Centre in Costa Rica.

President Solis was pleased by the vote of confidence that VMware gave the country to make this announcement.

"I am pleased to share the news with the country that VMvare decided to expand its operations in Costa Rica. During the meeting with the senior management of the company, they expressed their satisfaction with the preparation of Costa Rican professionals and the conditions that the country generated for expansion" concluded Solis. 

For his part, the General Manager of VMware Costa Rica, Ariel Vargas said we’re proud of having the presence of President Luis Guillermo Solís in our offices. This visit reflects the great commitment that VMware Costa Rica has to continue growing and thus provide more Costa Ricans a job opportunity in one of the leading companies within the technology industry. Our company has specific plans to increase operations in the country over the coming years. By the end of this year we will triple our operation compared to what was achieved last year and by 2015 this growth will remain constant, "he concluded 

The meeting was also attended by representatives of CINDE Jose Rossi y Gabriela Llobet, who accompanied the Minister of Foreign Trade, Alexander Mora, assisting the President in the intense work tour.

The Minister of Foreign Trade, Alexander Mora, said that "the beginning of this first visit to promote the country as an attractive destination for investment is already yielding encouraging results. The rapid growth of VMware is a very positive sign that reaffirms the value that highly sophisticated technology companies find in Costa Rica, especially in the preparation and quality of our human resources. "

The Director General of CINDE, Gabriela Llobet, explained that the tour is working out as planned and does not rule out that there is more good news during the week.

"The announcement by VMware is a reflection of the confidence that high-tech companies have in the country. Our human resources and capacity are undoubtedly the core of our value proposal. In addition to the country's commitment acquired in recent years to provide legal certainty as well as the optimal conditions for these investments are an important part of this proven track record that Costa Rica has "concluded Llobet. 

This Monday President Solis will participate in the evening at the San Jose Repertory Theatre as a speaker before over 350 people, including top executives from companies such as IBM, Intel, HP, Abbott, Hospira, Neurologic, among others, where whe will talk about Why Costa Rica is a competitive location for the establishment of Foreign Direct Investment? and how it has made the attraction model one of the most important in Latin America.
