Precision Coating inaugurating new state of the art facility in Costa Rica

Leading Coating company will provide applications to parts used in the medical device industry

San José, May 17th, 2017. The American Life Sciences Company, Precision Coating Co., Inc. (PCCI), a subsidiary of Katahdin Industries Inc. is inaugurating its new plant located in Coyol Free Zone, Alajuela, Building B25.

The company is receiving national and international customers to celebrate the inauguration of its coating plant for medical device parts. The company occupies a space of 1,300 m² with equipment that has the latest technology to perform the coating processes.

Headquartered in Hudson, MA, Precision Coating provides expert engineered coating solutions for a wide range of medical applications and processes. As a global leader in fluoropolymer applications in the medical device market, the opening of its plant in Costa Rica will enable the company to complete the supply chain for many customers.

Alexander Mora, Minister of Foreign Trade stated: "The medical devices sector is one of the responsible for dynamizing and diversifying our economy; but furthermore, it also represents one of the sectors that has allowed Costa Rica’s successful incorporation into global value chains, and the generation of high quality employment. Even though, globally, we are facing technological disruption, which is undoubtedly changing the way companies handle their operations. We are pleased to see that Precision Coating, as a global leader, finds in Costa Rica the conditions and the right human talent to meet its high quality standards and sophistication levels. From the Central Government, we congratulate the company, and we thank the vote of confidence placed in the country.”

Due to the efforts of the PCCI team and our strategic partners, we are very pleased with the efficient process to get up and running.”

Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director of CINDE, commented "Exports of precision and medical equipment accounted for 3% of Costa Rican exports in 1999 and by 2016 they represented 34%. This growth is achieved thanks to companies in the life sciences sector and their suppliers, which managed to turn medical devices into the country's first industrial export good.
