Lionbridge expands its Interpretations Division in Costa Rica and will hire 100 new employees

Leading Translation and Localization Provider Creates Costa Rican Global Delivery Center for Interpretation Services

Contractors will have the ability to work remotely and with flexible scheduling options

Costa Rica – July 13th, 2016
– Lionbridge Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: LIOX) and the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency (CINDE) today announced plans to hire at least 100 contractors in an effort to expand Lionbridge’s interpretations division in the country, representing a projected local staff increase of 200 percent. With the expansion, Lionbridge will build a global delivery center in Costa Rica, joining solution centers in 27 countries.

The expansion will provide additional geographic support for Lionbridge’s interpretations division, which delivers over-the-phone interpretation (OPI) services to global markets around the world, specifically for contact centers and business process outsourcers (BPOs). Since entering the Costa Rican market in 2015, Lionbridge has increased its volume of OPI services by 41 percent. By hiring additional contractors, the company aims to continue its growth in Costa Rica and further establish itself as a premier employer in the country.

Alexander Mora, Minister of Foreign Trade, commented: “The expansion of companies established in the country, like the one announced today by Lionbridge, is becoming a strong tendency due to our efforts to promote investments. This is a very important phenomenon for us, because it means there is confidence to reinvest in the country, and that the right conditions to establish business and continue growing with success, and to generate opportunities of quality jobs for many Costa Ricans exist. We congratulate Lionbridge and wish more success to come in the near future”.

“We are thrilled to continue to grow our presence in the Costa Rican market with support from CINDE, as well as expand our footprint as a leading regional employer,” said Eric Muñoz, Vice President of Global Offerings, Lionbridge. “We’re proud to provide our contractors with increased flexibility to work around their individual schedules, while also providing access to quality training materials, glossaries and learning courses that will aid them in developing additional skills.”

New talent to be hired by Lionbridge in the coming months will be focused on contractors who are fully fluent in English and at least one other language, with prior interpretation experience preferred, though not required. Candidates must have access to a landline or other stable phone connection that isn’t a cellular device, and will be expected to take a language assessment via phone to demonstrate their interpretation skills as part of the application.

Contractors will have the ability to work remotely and with flexible scheduling options. Lionbridge prioritizes applications from contractors who are available at least 16 hours per week during peak business hours – Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST.

Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director of CINDE, said “Costa Rican efforts to develop bilingual human talent are helping to boost the growth of the services sector in our country. Companies like Lionbridge help us to create quality jobs and overall flexible jobs with the option to work from home. The Costa Rican services sector will continue as one of the most dynamic sectors in the economy, in which more than 50.000 Costa Ricans have a job thanks to its continuous growth”.
