GSK consolidates services center in Costa Rica and announces the hiring of 150 additional people

The company records a growth of 300% in its payroll in the last two years.


San José, Costa Rica April 28th, 2015. After just over two years of opening their services center for Latin America in Costa Rica, the pharmaceutical company GSK recently announced an important expansion of its services, which will now include the United States. With this expansion the company plans to hire 150 people over the next year and a half.

This major expansion reflects the strengthening of financial services and the addition of a new range of services of special relevance for markets such as the US.

Alexander Mora, Minister of Foreign Trade, underlined the relevance of the announcement. "It's very important news, which demonstrates the enormous dynamism of the services sector as an engine of our economic development. It also shows how the constant growth and professionalism of the Costa Rican human capital is leading to greater credibility of Costa Rica as an attractive and efficient destination to consolidate this kind of business. With this expansion, GSK adds to the growing group of companies that ,with their operations, act as strategic partners to boost job generation, capital contributions and benefits associated with increased efficiency, innovation, knowledge and competitiveness in the country. "

Esteban Coronado, Site Director for GSK Services Costa Rica commented "In effect, we have grown over 300% in the last two years. To date we have generated 300 jobs and hope to hire 150 additional employees in the next year and a half. " The Services Center had been come providing mainly financial and accounting services for most Latin American countries.

"We are expanding our operations in Costa Rica and plan to provide Information Technology (Infrastructure) and SAP services globally. Our expectation is to gradually increase the amount of services provided and the geographic scope of the same, " said Coronado.

Irving Soto, Director of Investment Promotion at CINDE said "GSK reflects the constant evolution and dynamism that services companies reach in Costa Rica having an efficient and well prepared human talent. Today, thanks to the strong growth of companies in the services sector, more than 50,000 Costa Ricans have a quality and well paid job. "
