Amazon creates 2000 jobs in Costa Rica for 2019

San José, Costa Rica - June 26, 2019. Today, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced the creation of 2,000 job openings. These positions will be based in Amazon’s dedicated centers in Costa Rica and will include specialist roles in areas such as customer service, technology, cloud services, finance and accounting.

These specialist roles will support Amazon’s customers around the world and provide 24/7 world class customer service in North and South America, Europe and Asia; in English, Portuguese, Italian, French, and Mandarin. The American Customer Satisfaction Index recently announced the results of its annual survey, and for the 9th consecutive year, customers ranked Amazon #1. The United Kingdom has a similar index, The U.K. Customer Satisfaction Index, put out by the Institute of Customer Service. For the 5th time in a row, Amazon U.K. ranked #1 in that survey.

The President Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado Quesada, recalled during a meeting he participated in on March 12, 2019, with executives at Amazon in Seattle, Washington. At this meeting, he asked Amazon, “to grow the number of virtual job openings to make quality jobs reach further regions of Costa Rica.”

Reaffirming his government’s support towards foreign investment, Alvarado said: “the announcement made by Amazon to create 2,000 job openings will have, without a doubt, a great impact on the quality job creation in different regions of the country, where the company pursues a methodology of virtual employment.”

The Minister of Foreign Trade, Dyalá Jiménez, added "Amazon announced the creation of 2,000 new jobs in different areas such as customer service, technology and in the finance sector. This is an announcement that fills us with pride for the trust they are placing in our country, being a company that is consolidated as the largest employer of the services sector in Costa Rica. Additionally, it offers great employment opportunities for those who are searching for jobs in those areas."

Amazon’s Costa Rica global service centers include a range of roles including Customer Service Associates, Fraud Investigators, Financial Analysts, Finance, Program, Team and Group Managers.
