Multilingual human talent and macroeconomic stability influenced the arrival of the firm in Costa Rica in 2010.
The official delegation, led by President Luis Guillermo Solis, that visited London in May 2016, met with senior company executives and full support was given to the operation in the country.

San José, June 22nd, 2016. The multinational consulting firm McKinsey andamp; Company, dedicated to helping institutions in the private, public and social sectors achieve lasting success, today welcomed Costa Rican Minister of Foreign Trade Alexander Mora to the firm’s facility in San José, where McKinsey recently added a modern design center that will support the firm’s global operations.

The firm’s Costa Rica facility employs 550 people in different work areas and is in the process of hiring new staff.

Accompanying Minister Mora was Luis Gamboa, President of CINDE; and Pedro Beirute, PROCOMER General Manager, who received a tour of the facilities and spent some time meeting with McKinsey’s local employees. The tour included a visit to McKinsey’s new design center that will help shape how McKinsey consultants communicate with their clients around the world.
The visit comes after the commencement of an official business tour to London, headed by Luis Guillermo Solis, President of Costa Rica.

In addition, Luis Guillermo Solis, President of Costa Rica, received a courtesy visit at the Presidential House, from senior leaders of McKinsey, to whom he reiterated the country's commitment to providing quality human talent. This commitment also includes continuing work to maintain competitiveness that will permit and encourage local growth, a message that also was reiterated during the visit to London.

"Attracting investments to further strengthen quality jobs and economic momentum in our country is a fundamental effort. We take every opportunity during business tours abroad to position the potential of Costa Rica to investors, given our political and economic stability which add to our competitive advantages," said President Luis Guillermo Solis Rivera.

Fernando Ferrari, McKinsey Senior Partner and leader for Spanish Latin America, remarked, "We are pleased to receive Minister Mora at our offices in San Jose, and give him and his team the opportunity to meet with some of our office colleagues. Thanks to the experience and hard work of these Costa Ricans, we have recently added new and very sophisticated work units, which include: work teams for advanced data analysis, big data and advanced IT tools; and professionals who help our clients solve the most complex challenges."

Alexander Mora, Minister of Foreign Trade, welcomed the new professional development opportunities for many Costa Ricans that will be able to opt for various job positions within the prestigious firm. "The case of McKinsey once again evidences how Costa Rica continues to evolve, adding value, and advancing in the sophistication of the services processes provided globally, and increasingly often, out of Costa Rica. The testimony of their positive performance also offers us new opportunities to continue attracting investments in a sector that has become the major driving force of our economy. McKinsey’s presence in Costa Rica fills us with pride, since it confirms that the country maintains its strong leadership in this field; it also motivates us to continue working in a direction that is clearly leading us on the path to development."

Luis Gamboa, President of CINDE, said "Costa Rica is characterized for being a strategic global headquarters providing quality services. Today 75 kinds of services are exported in more than 10 languages (directly out of Costa Rica) and all thanks to the quality of its human talent. McKinsey is a clear example of how the country has evolved to higher value-added services, which will continue to demand a more trained human talent in the future."
