Press Release

Allergan Costa Rica stood out first in the world for its operational excellence

MAY 15th 2017

The company evaluated all its plants located in Germany, Belgium, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, the United States, Brazil and Costa Rica.

San José, Costa Rica May 15 2017. Allergan Costa Rica's manufacturing plant was awarded the company's worldwide "Plant of the Year" in manufacturing for promoting continuous improvement, encouraging the sharing of best practices and rewarding the best and boldest performance within the global manufacturing network.

Under this newly launched Allergan program, each plant is rated monthly under a comprehensive set of aligned metrics: people, quality, customer, and value. At the end of each year, the team that delivers the best results is awarded as Plant of the Year, and in 2016 Costa Rica’s operation was the winner.

Alexander Mora, Foreign Trade Minister commented that: "Excellence is the result of arduous efforts and an unwavering commitment to continuous improvement; and since its establishment in Costa Rica more than 10 years ago, Allergan has maintained that commitment with the country. Not only is it a source of high quality employment for more than 600 of our Costa Ricans, but it is one of the companies that has allowed the successful incorporation of Costa Rica into global value chains. However, as the technological evolution, in which we are currently immersed, advances quality and excellence requirements are increasingly high and sophisticated. Therefore, we are pleased to know that our country is keeping up with global competitors, and that the local operations of the company are awarded with excellence. We commend Allergan for this distinction and from the Central Government we will continue to redouble our efforts to strengthen the conditions that have allowed its successful operation. "

Mr. Nelson Rodriguez Muñoz, Vice President and General Manager of Allergan Costa Rica said: "This recognition is the result of the disciplined implementation of our Operational Excellence System and the development of a Work Culture based on continuous improvement and excellence. Of course, this achievement would not have been possible without the contribution of our collaborators, characterized by their talent, commitment and passion. "

Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director of CINDE said that "this quality, continuous improvement and excellent performance recognition reflects the capabilities that Costa Ricans have and precisely how they contribute with great value added to companies that decide to invest in the country. Costa Rica, according to the World Economic Forum, is ranked first in innovation throughout Latin America, which also shows that this kind of achieved recognitions, thanks to human talent, are no accident.

Allergan began operations in Costa Rica under the name of Inamed. The medical devices manufacturing plant was acquired by Allergan in 2007, the year in which it also inaugurated its current building in Global Park free zone, in Heredia. Allergan Costa Rica has around 600 employees who manufacture breast implants and tissue expanders that are distributed to more than 50 destinations around the world.

Allergan is a dynamic company, if you want to be part of this company, you can send your resume to crjobs@allergan.com.
